14/06/2010 - NET Engineering meets Daniel Libeskind

On June 9th, on his way to Ferrara where he was expected by the Faculty of Architecture for a "lectio magistralis," the architect Daniel Libeskind visited  NET Engineering International’s headquarter in Rubano (Padova).

Local newspapers commented: “A visit that somehow anticipates the meeting between one of the most influential contemporary architects and the largest Italian independent engineering Company, that will meet over the coming months, though in different roles, for CityLife Project: Libeskind is among the four "big names" of the ambitious environmental and urbanistic requalification of the historic Fair District in Milano, NET is in charge of supervising and high surveillance of construction design and of the carrying out of works.

The President Giovanni Battista Furlan and the CEO Marco Valcamonica underlined that "definitely it was a pleasant visit, that we interpret as an acknowledgment of our efforts and of the results that our Company is obtaining internationally".

At the end of the meeting, Libeskind was available to answer to reporters’ questions, focused on the possibility of intervention in the historic city centres, especially those of medium size. "Past and present - he said - have to meet, and also the historical centres cannot remain unreceptive to ideas and innovation. The important thing is to respect the scale, consider needs and take opportunities" .

According to the great architect, "every city must be able to reinvent itself, otherwise it will have no future."
"City Life - he continued - is an excellent example of this concept, because it does not subtract space and life to the city, but it gives them back . Moreover, the cultural contribution of different architects will offer a pluralist interpretation of the city ".
